The Getaway
So we got away…
I mean literally. Earlier this year I stumbled upon the Getaway House page ... featuring these adorable tiny home cabins. Without reading much into the page I was SOLD. I’ve had this mild obsession with tiny homes since starting my minimalism journey.
After months of no road trips and unique boutique hotels, we decided to risk it all!! We booked the Piney Woods location located in Larue , Tx right outside of Dallas. The drive getting there was very scenic.. about 3.5 hours of trees.. greenery, small vintage towns, and even a few cattle along the way. You’re literally driving through the country.
The cabins are tucked deep into the woods with privacy , and safety in mind. There are many cabins on the site , (all uniquely named)but spaced out just enough.. You are provided with outside seating and parking directly in front of your space. ( at this particular location At least) It’s literally JUST ENOUGH of everything of what you need. we got a 2 bed bed cabin named YUNG , which could comfortably accommodate 3-4 people. I can definitely see having a quick girlfriends getaway here. (Pass the wine please!)
We felt completely supplied and prepared , mainly due to my research leading up to the trip. Getaway did a great job providing information on what you NEED…..basically PACK LIGHT. We picked up snacks and a few ingredients for me to cook a simple meal. I was so proud of myself because I packed all my essentials in this cute mini backpack I got from IKEA. This is the smallest I had ever packed.(I’ve been the carry-on only queen for the last 6 years) .
I was in such awe….. I felt like home.. and I knew at that moment tiny home living would be my next venture…. I just needed to convince Chris and Kay that it’s possible. We spent the day reading , resting , playing a few games , attempting s’mores by the fire… and munching on Rotel nachos..,,,, Keeping things simple. Our activities were very much like what we do at home .. just without the Tv and phones…. well for the most part. The idea is to getaway… to connect with nature and disconnect from your typical distractions. I used my phone for the art part, capturing moments and experience…the remainder of the time I focused on being present and thankful . Kayden, my pre-teen, still found her way to the phone. (Rolling my eyes as I write this)
Though limited on time, it was everything I needed. Over the Last few months I had been bogged down with work, house projects, , and fighting anxiety. It was a mini reset but also a reminder of how the simple things truly bring me joy. I’m certainly not the bugs and woods type of gal…. but I’ll do it in a heartbeat for my sanity. The best part was , the whole family enjoyed the experience and want to do it again soon! I’ve been trying to convince Chris and Kayden on tiny home living... and they were definitely open to the idea after visiting. We definitely could not do one as small but, tiny home living is certainly doable.
